9th National Women’s Congress (2002-2007)

The 9th National Women's Congress (2002-2007) took place from February 22-23, 2002 in the capital city of Hanoi with the theme "Vietnamese women being united, equal, dynamic, creative for the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country".

Attending the Congress were nearly 1,200 delegates (including 900 official delegates) representing more than 11 million VWU members. The Congress was attended by 19 delegations with nearly 100 international women's delegates and representatives of the Women's International Democratic Federation, the Federation of Committees for Freedom and the ASEAN Confederation of Women's Organizations...

The Congress was honored to welcome General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee Nong Duc Manh, State President Tran Duc Luong, Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Van An, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai. The Congress was honored to receive the banner with the words "Vietnamese Women: Dynamic - Creative - Faithful - Responsible" presented by General Secretary Nong Duc Manh on behalf of the CPV Central Committee.

The Congress continued to launch the emulation movement: "Women actively study, creatively work and nurture happy families"; proposed 6 key programs including: Educating moral qualities, improving women's capacity and qualifications in all aspects; Supporting women in economic development; Building prosperous, equal, progressive and happy families; Building and developing a strong VWU organization; Participating in building and supervising the implementation of laws and policies on gender equality; People-to-people diplomacy activities.

The Congress elected the 9th Central Committee, consisting of 132 members and the Presidium of 23 members. Comrade Ha Thi Khiet was re-elected as VWU President. Comrade Le Thi Thu, Truong Thi Khue, Nguyen Thi Oanh, Nguyen Thi Phuong Minh, Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, and Nguyen Thi Kim Lien were elected as VWU Vice Presidents.
