2nd National Women's Congress (1956-1961)

The 2nd National Women's Congress (term 1956-1961) took place from May 26-31, 1956, in Hanoi, Viet Nam.

Congress was attended by 425 official delegates representing all women from the North, along with 6 international women's delegations.

The Congress was honored to welcome Party and State leaders: Comrade Truong Chinh - General Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Labor Party; Ton Duc Thang - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Pham Van Dong - Prime Minister; and Phan Ke Toai - Deputy Prime Minister.

The Congress approved the Report, Agenda, Resolution, Declaration, and revised Constitutions of the Vietnam Women's Union; identified 5 programs for the term 1956 - 1961:

- Uniting women nationwide to strive together with the entire people to build a peaceful, unified, independent, democratic and prosperous Viet Nam.

- Achieving equality between men and women, completely liberate women.

- Improving political and cultural qualifications for women.

- Expanding social activities to improve the lives of women and children.

- Struggling for protection of world peace.

The Congress elected the 2nd Central Executive Committee, consisting of 50 members, and the Standing Committee of 13 members.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Thap was elected President. Comrades Le Thi Xuyen, Nguyen Thi Thuc Vien, Hoang Thi Ai, Bui Thi Cam, and Ha Thi Que are Vice Presidents.
