6th National Women's Congress (1987-1992)

The 6th National Women's Congress (1987-1992 term) took place on May 19-20, 1987 in the capital city of Hanoi.

Attending the Congress were 1,138 delegates (including 700 official delegates). The Congress was honored to welcome Comrade Truong Chinh - Chairman of the State Council; Pham Van Dong - Chairman of the Council of Ministers; Nguyen Duc Tam - Politburo Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

The Congress set out the tasks to be implemented during the term, as follows: Strengthening education to build new socialist women, encouraging women to actively perform the Resolution of the 6th Party Congress; Taking care of women and children’s rights; Guiding and helping women build new cultural families; Enhancing solidarity and friendship with women in the world in the struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress; Consolidating women unions at levels, training and fostering cadres, innovating the methods of the organization’s operations.

The Congress emphasized 8 contents to be implemented in the renovation process, namely: Educating and building new socialist women; Encouraging women to actively implement the Resolution of the 6th Party Congress, focusing on three major economic programs; Participating in building, and supervising the implementation of policies, regimes and working and living conditions for women and children; Doing well the back-office work; Mobilizing, organizing and guiding women to promote their role as mothers, contributing to building families and well raising children; Strengthening solidarity and friendship with women in the world in the struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress; Training and fostering cadres, innovating the Union’s operation methods; Building and consolidating women unions at levels.

The Congress elected the 6th Central Committee consisting of 98 members. The Standing Committee consists of 15 members. Comrade Nguyen Thi Dinh was re-elected as President. Vice Presidents include comrades: Nguyen Thi Than, Tran Thi Thanh Thanh, Truong My Hoa, Ngo Ba Thanh, Hoang Xuan Sinh.
