1st National Women’s Congress (1950-1956)

The 1st National Women's Congress (1950 - 1956) took place from April 14th to 19th, 1950 in Dai Tu District, Thai Nguyen province (the Viet Bac war zone).

Attending the Congress were 345 delegates, including 168 official delegates representing 10 million Vietnamese women.

The Congress was honored to welcome President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman of the Lien Viet Front Le Dinh Tham.

The Congress approved the Report; Resolutions on the organization, functions and tasks of the Women's Union in the cause of national liberation, women's liberation and protection of democratic peace; Women's Union Charter; Declaration and Call on all Vietnamese women.

The Congress proposed 10 specific tasks to be implemented during the term, namely:

- To participate in and support the resistance war;

- To mobilize women to compete and increase production;

- To mobilize women in the areas temporarily occupied by the enemy;

- To strengthen international activities;

- To improve women's lives and protect children;

- To involve in social relief;

- To mobilize women to participate in politics;

- To strengthen and develop the Women’s Union;

- To contribute to building the United National Front;

- To merge the National Salvation Women's Union into the Vietnam Women's Union.

The Congress elected the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, term I, consisting of 32 members. The VWU Central Executive Committee elected a Standing Committee consisting of 9 members. Comrade Le Thi Xuyen was elected as President. Comrade Hoang Thi Ai, Le Thu Tra and Nguyen Thi Thuc Vien were elected as Vice Presidents.
