3rd National Women’s Congress (1961-1974 term)

The 3rd National Women’s Congress (1961-1974 term) took place from March 8 to 11, 1961 in the capital city of Hanoi.

The Congress was attended by 450 official delegates representing 4.5 million members, along with 19 international women's delegations.

The Congress was honored to welcome President Ho Chi Minh; comrades: Le Duan, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Vietnam; Truong Chinh, Chairman of the National Assembly; Pham Van Dong, Prime Minister; and Le Thanh Nghi, Deputy Prime Minister.

The Congress set forth three major tasks to be accomplished during the term:

  • Strengtherning solidarity to participate in the socialist revolution, elevating the cause of women’s liberation in the North to a higher, deeper, and more thorough level.
  • Resolutely joining the entire nation in the struggle to achieve peace and national reunification, completing the people's national democratic revolution throughout the country, and liberating women and children in the South from the brutal oppression of the U.S.-Diem regime.
  • Enhancing solidarity and friendship with women worldwide, advocating for peace, democracy, national independence, and socialism. The Congress launched the movements “Women with Five Good Virtues” and “Three Responsibilities.”

It elected the 3rd Central Executive Committee consisting of 67 members, with a Standing Committee of 16 members. Comrade Nguyen Thi Thap was re-elected as President, and comrades Hoang Thi Ai, Ha Thi Que, Le Thi Xuyen, Nguyen Thi Thuc Vien, and Ha Giang were elected as its Vice Presidents.
