Workshop on women’s work in the period of promoting industrialization and modernization

09/04/2009
In the morning of March 24th 2009, Organization Department of the Central Committee of the Party in collaboration with Central Vietnam Women’s Union held a workshop on Women’s work in the period of promoting industrialization and modernization at ministries and branches. Attending at the meeting were Mrs. Nguyen Thi Doan, Vice-President, members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Mrs. Nguyen Duc Hat, Vice- Director of the Party’s Organization Department of the Central Committee, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, President of Vietnam Women’s Union, and representatives of ministries, branches and scientists.

After a year of implementing the Resolution No.11 of the Politburo on women’s work in the period of promoting industrialization and modernization at ministries and branches, awareness of the Party’s executive committee at different levels on the women’s work has been gradually improved. The resolution has been implemented at different levels. However, there still remain shortcomings in the implementation of the Resolution No.11. Many ministries and branches have not developed their own plans and programs to implement the Resolution. A number of leaders and managers are not fully aware of the women’s work. Besides, system of documents that concretize the guidelines of the Party, laws and policies of the State to implement the Resolution No.11 and Law on Gender Equality are not comprehensive. Noticeably, the proportion of women leaders is rather low (below 30%). Ministries and branches has not had drastic measures in women’s cadres recruiting, planning and nominating to ensure women’s participation in management and leadership positions. A portion of women still have the inferiority complex and are resigned to their fate.

Speaking at the workshop, Vice-President Nguyen Thi Doan confirmed that: the Party and the State always pay attention and create good conditions for women to study, strive and develop to contribute their capacity and intelligence to the national industrialization and modernization. She also mentioned reasons that affect the proportion of women leaders and requested Vietnam Women’s Union to promote the communication on gender equality and women’s work as well as conduct surveys to assess the role, leading capacity and virtuous character of women cadres. Importantly, she called upon women all over the country to actively study and improve their professional capacity and legal knowledge to meet the demand of the innovative cause.
