At the meeting, Ms. Shin Hye Kyong reviewed the longstanding cooperation between the two sides, which dates back to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2010 on promoting healthy international marriages and advancing women’s development. She further elaborated on the Republic of Korea’s strategy to support migrant women through a nationwide network of more than 240 Multicultural Family Support Centers. At these centers, Vietnamese women receive not only language and cultural assistance but also legal and psychological counseling to help them adapt more quickly to their new lives.

The Korean delegation proposed expanding joint initiatives with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to improve the quality of pre-departure orientation programs for women bound for the Republic of Korea in the coming time. They also emphasized the importance of support schemes for returning women and their children, with a view to ensuring their sustainable reintegration in Vietnam.

Expressing appreciation for the efforts and thoughtful support of the Korean Government for Vietnamese migrant women, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong affirmed that the VWU consistently places strong emphasis on safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of women in transnational marriages.

Vietnam has taken concrete steps, including the operation of “One-Stop Service Offices” (OSSO) and the implementation of the “Safe Migration Commune” model in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). These initiatives have provided legal and livelihood support to more than 3,000 returning migrant women, helping them and their children overcome psychological and economic barriers and stabilize their lives.
