Workshop on strengthening the cooperation on prevention of human trafficking and supporting victims of human trafficking in border provinces of Vietnam-Cambodia

From May 27th to 28th 2009, in An Giang province, The Central of Vietnam Women’s Union held a workshop on strengthening the cooperation on prevention of human trafficking and supporting victims of human trafficking in border provinces of Vietnam-Cambodia which is chaired by Mrs. H’Ngam Nie K’Dam, Vice-President of VWU. The workshop is supported by Asia Fund in Vietnam.

 On Vietnam’s side, there were representatives from the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Vietnam Women’s Union, project 130 Steering Board, COMMIT Steering Board as well as departments and agencies of the provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Tay Ninh, Long An and Ho Chi Minh City. o­n Cambodia’s side, there were representatives from the Ministry of Women, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the National Permanent Committee. There were also representatives from the departments of Women, judiciary, public security, education, employment, social work and veterans and youth rehabilitation and courts from provinces of Takeo, Kandal, Svay Rieng, Prey Vieng, Kampot and Phnom Penh. There were also representatives from the international organizations participating at the workshop: Asian Fund in Vietnam and in Cambodia, UNIAP, ICOM, ADAPT, State Department of the US and the USAID...

 

The workshop included the results of the implementation of the cooperation program between border provinces of Vietnam-Cambodia o­n prevention of trafficking in women and children. Participants discussed and shared effective models of communication in human trafficking prevention and safe immigration. The workshop also set out to define the obstacles in exchanging information and how to support victims of trafficking to reintegrate into their communities. It proposed specific measures to enhance the bilateral cooperation between border provinces and proposed to finish the legal framework of prevention of human trafficking between Vietnam-Cambodia.
