Vietnamese expats come home for National Day

A delegation of 39 overseas Vietnamese will visit their native land on the occasion of the 61st National Day on September 2, state media reported Tuesday.

The Vietnamese people, who greatly contributed to the country's resistance wars against the French colonialists and US imperialists, are currently living in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.

During their two-week visit starting o­n Aug. 21, the delegates will meet with State President Nguyen Minh Triet.


Organized by the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, the group will also visit various famous landscapes, from the Hung Temple and Ha Long Bay to the ancient imperial city of Hue and Ho Chi Minh City.


Last year, 41 overseas Vietnamese from France, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Belgium, Hong Kong and Russia made a similar visit to the country.
