On Friday she attended the 16th Charity Flower Festival in Da Lat, an annual festival held for children of leprosy patients and the poor.
She gave away gifts to 120 participating children.
Together with Help the Poor, a Vietnamese NGO based in the US, she has raised $35,000 for charity works in Vietnam.
When Thanh Nien caught up with her in Da Lat on a rainy day, she was casually dressed and was interacting with the poor children. “I’m really touched to know that though the children here are not leprosy patients themselves, they have a complex about their parents,” she said. “I want to help people come closer.”
Pham has since returned to HCMC from where she would go to My Tho town in Tien Giang province to visit her grandmother.
She will return to the US at the beginning of September to continue her studies and charity works. But she is always on the lookout for opportunities to visit Vietnam.
Pham does charity work not only in Vietnam but also in other Asian countries. Back in the US, she is a model and a host on VHN, a Vietnamese-language TV channel.
Before winning this year, she was runner-up at last year’s Miss Vietnam USA pageant. She has also won other crowns like the Miss Vietnamese American Top Model 2005 and Miss Vietnamese in Southern California 2006.
