Vietnam Women’s Union leaders meet with Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Nuns

October 26, at its headquarters, the Vietnam Women's Union received the Delegation of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) nuns led by Chief Nun Thich Nu Nhat Khuong - Standing Member of VBS Central Executive Council and Head of the Central Nunnery Division.

According to a VBS Nuns’ representative, there are nearly 7,000 nun monasteries and nearly 25,000 nuns nationwide.

Over the past time, VBS nuns have carried out many charity and social security programs, contributing to the national building. In 5 years alone (2017-2022), the total value of the nuns' charity activities was 1,170 billion VND (around 48 million USD). Besides, several educational, environmental protection, and foreign affairs activities carried out by the Nuns have had great impact on society...

In particular, Vietnam Buddhist nuns and female Buddhists have enthusiastically participated in social activities and patriotic emulation movements launched by the Government and Women's Unions at all levels, such as hunger eradication and poverty reduction, new-style rural building, newly civilized residential areas, fighting against social evils, environmental protection, combating climate change, promoting charity, humanitarian relief and especially, joining hands with the political system to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic...

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Ton Ngoc Hanh, PCC Alternate Member, VWU Vice President acknowledged and highly appreciated the results that VBS nuns have achieved. The VBS, with indispensable contribution of the nuns, has highly promoted the spirit of patriotism and united efforts to obtain many important achievements of Buddhist affairs.

VWU Vice President Ton Ngoc Hanh also appreciated the recent collaboration between the Women's Union at all levels and the Buddhist nuns. The Vice President expressed her hope that in the coming time, the two organizations will continue to work together further, for the common goal of prosperity, happiness and wealth of the people and society.
