A seminar on the role of women in economic development and their contribution to the country's rapid and sustainable growth was held in Hanoi on June 17 as part of the 14th National Women's Congress for the 2026-2031 term.

The 14th National Congress of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) for the 2026–2031 term officially opened on June 18 at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi. The Congress brings together 789 official delegates, who are outstanding women representing different social groups, ethnic communities, religions, professional sectors, and regions across the country.

14th National Women's Congress is a milestone that ushers in a new phase for women's movements and the VWU, in line with Việt Nam's aspiration for a prosperous, democratic, civilised and happy society.

National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn stressed that Việt Nam is entering a new stage of development that demands high standards in every field, requiring women not only to participate in national development but also to become one of the key forces shaping the country's future.

The Việt Nam Women's Union will strive to promote the comprehensive development of women’s movements and the organisation’s activities, contributing to the implementation of the Resolution of the 11th National Congress of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front and the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress

For the 2026–31 term, delegates identified key objectives and priorities aimed at empowering women to foster innovation, master knowledge, strengthen international integration and actively participate in Party and political system building.

The women, peace and security agenda has been Việt Nam’s consistent priority, said Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyễn Minh Vũ at an open debate at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Vietnamese diplomat Đỗ Hùng Việt called on UN Women to continue prioritising areas capable of generating long-term impact, including women’s economic empowerment and strengthening the group’s leadership and participation in emerging fields.

With Vietnam’s deepening global integration, women are increasingly asserting their role not only as beneficiaries of development, but as active agents of change. From education and economic participation to engagement in policymaking, their progress reflects the country’s strong commitment to human rights and gender equality.

Organised within the framework of the 14th National Congress of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU), the exhibition underscores the enduring role of women as a key force in struggles for national independence, post-war reconstruction, and socio-economic development, while reaffirming their growing position in the era of integration and globalisation.
