The proposal was made at a conference on executive cooperation in human being trafficking control along Viet Nam - China border, held by the two countries' Ministries of Public Security in collaboration with the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Ho Chi Minh City on June 21-22.
Under the proposal, the Vietnamese and Chinese sides will conduct a survey on the situation of Vietnamese women and children illegally trafficked to China, set up a hot line and specify hot areas and criminal gangs involved in human being trafficking.
Addressing the conference, Narumi Yamada, UNODC chief representative in Viet Nam, expressed hopes that Viet Nam and China will take more dramatic measures to control human being trafficking in the coming time and rescue and bring trafficked victims back home.
The head of the Chinese delegation to the conference, Mr. He Ting, stressed that cross-border human being trafficking cases became complicated recently, therefore the two countries should speed up the fight against trans-national human being trafficking crimes.
According to Viet Nam's Ministry of Public Security, 552 Vietnamese women and children have been trafficked to China since 2004, while Chinese gangs have illegally transported 37 Chinese children through Viet Nam to a third country in 11 times since early 2006. Vietnamese police has rescued seven Chinese children in the 12th and 13th times. Police forces in the two countries have collaborated to rescue 15 victims and arrest five involved in human being trafficking recently.
