The Women’s Publishing House received the First-class Independence Medal

At the 55th anniversary of the Women's Publishing House, Vice President of the State Mme. Nguyen Thi Doan, on behalf of the Vietnam Communist Party and the State, awarded a First-class Independence Medal to the Women's Publishing House. Two individuals of the Women's Publishing House also received noble prizes for their contributions to publishing and literary life.

On November 24th, 2012, at the VWU’s Center for Women and Development, the Women's Publishing House celebrated their 55th anniversary. Vice President of the State Mme. Nguyen Thi Doan, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Chairman of the Vietnam Publishers Association Mr. Do Quy Doan, and the Vietnam Women’s Union President Mme. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa in addition to many visitors, writers and poets, and former staff and close collaborators of the Women's Publishing House, gathered together to congratulate the event.

The Women's Publishing House was founded in October of 1957, as an entity of the VWU distributing information and communication. It serves as the o­nly central publisher in Vietnam for women.

Besides introducing the views of the Vietnam Communist Party, the policies and laws of the State relating to the lives of women and children, and the orientation and program activities of the VWU, the Women's Publishing House also develops and publishes books of common knowledge, books of literature with many prestigious publications, and served as an active voice in literary life. A series of books and poems, such as The Season of Leaves Falling in the Garden by Ma Van Khang, Ly-Tran, a novel series written by Hoang Quoc Hai, and a historical novel by Nguyen Xuan Khanh, were published by the Women's Publishing House, and grew to become influential works worthy of honour. Since its founding 55 years ago, the Women's Publishing House has produced 11 thousand titles with a circulation of several million copies.

At the celebration, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan pinned a First-class Independence Medal o­n the traditional flag of the Women's Publishing House – this noble prize was decided and signed by President Truong Tan Sang. Along with that, Deputy Director of the Women's Publishing House Mr. Tran Viet Anh, was also honored by Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan with a Third-class Labor Medal. Editor Lai Thi Thu Ha, was honored with a certificate of meritfrom the Prime Minister.

In her speech at the celebration, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union and Director of the Women's Publishing House, said: "Looking back, although it has not always been a smooth and quiet journey, we the Women's Publishing House can be proud of what we have done, and what we have contributed to the women's movement and the publishing industry in Vietnam. The fine traditions upheld by Vietnamese women and the Women's Publishing House, and the experience that the Women's Publishing House has been able to acquire in the past 55 years, is in large part attributed to the attention, guidance, and enthusiastic support of the VWU, the management bodies of the Vietnam Communist Party, the State, and collaborators. Their support will allow the Women's Publishing House to continuously grow".
