Homeless kids paint to raise funds

A new painting exhibit by children who live in a HCM City shelter has local viewers in its spell.

More than 30 paintings, which sell from US$10 to $35, depict the lifestyles of the young painters from the Thao Dan Open House, a centre for homeless and orphan children.

Most of the works are colourful and deal with different themes, including daily life, landscapes, women and children.

"In addition to the sales, we also hope to provide viewers with opportunities to talk and learn more about the children's challenges and triumphs in life," said Sarah Beck, the American founder of Armed with a Paintbrush, a charity fund sponsoring the event.

Beck worked with Mai's Gallery to organise the event. "I want to introduce these children's paintings to the world," said Beck, who has a special love for Vietnamese children.

The proceeds will be sent to Thao Dan's children. The sales and event will take place at Montana Cafe, 16 Nguyen Hue Street, District 1, HCM City.
