As many as 14 young individuals and one organisation were presented prizes for their initiatives to reduce discrimination against HIV/AIDS-positive persons at a ceremony held in Ha Noi on Aug.28.

The first place prizes were given to Dang Hai Yen, an eighth grader from northern Quang Ninh province for her painting entitled, "A Walking Day for People Living with HIV" and Linh Thuy Duong, an eleventh grader for her short story about a heroic woman.

The second prize went to a ninth grader from Ha Noi, Nguyen Ngoc Hai Dang, for her poem "Towards The Sun".

The contest provided young people nationwide with an insight into HIV/AIDS and aroused their deepest sympathy for people living with the disease, said the editor-in-chief of the Education and Time magazine.

The award ceremony was jointly organised by the Education and Time magazine and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The contest drew nearly 30,000 entries by students from across the country.
