Foreign Students Show up in Green Summer Campaign

09/08/2006
The Green Summer Campaign receives the attendance of not only Vietnamese students but also foreign learners from many international schools.

Six US students have joined the campaign with much eagerness and strong enthusiasms.

They were six of the 30 most talented students selected from nearly 30,000 candidates, to get the Robertson scholarships for the voluntary programs held in Viet Nam, South Africa and Argentina.

“I wanted to visit Viet Nam to experience the real life activities of its people and the beauty of its culture”, said Rachael, the only girl student of the group when asked why she had chosen Viet Nam for her summer voluntary work.

These foreigners ran many outdoor activities in the southern province of Ben Tre, the destination of the six-US student group. Local little kids then had a chance to attend evening English classes run by these young Americans.

An interesting thing is that these US students cleverly integrated in the program with some essential skills that the children might encounter during their life.

Not only the US students but also students from other countries like Japan, Korean and France took part in the summer campaign.

A 24-member group from Korea has spent several days in the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long, the region famed for its fruit abundance. Wherever they were, they were welcomed with warm hospitality by the locals.

The way they and volunteers ran their work, the songs they performed in the evening after hard-working days have strengthened the ties between them, their countries and the Vietnamese people.

Vietnamese locals and foreign students shared great moments together like members of the same family, having in their minds unforgettable memories.

The last day saw the traditional cuisine performance of the participants. Over 100 local people had chance to learn more of each other’s culture through their performed gastronomy.

Nearly 100 foreign students joined the campaign and devoted their summer vacation in Viet Nam’s remote areas. “All of us are willing to be present at the campaign next year”, said a member of the Korean group.
