American Global Exchange grants 43 female pupils of Hoa Binh with scholarships

American Global Exchange (GX) has granted $4,300 US to disadvantaged female pupils of Hoa Binh Province. These young girls successfully surpassed many difficulties and studied effectively in 2006.

 Having started in 1994, this is the 11th year American Global Exchange has provided grants to disadvantaged Vietnamese female pupils.

 

With a grant of $100 US a scholarship, 298 disadvantaged pupils of provinces of Thanh Hoa, Son La, Yen Bai and Hoa Binh have been able to purchase books, study equipment and pay for daily costs.

 

Bui Thi Thuom, an orphaned 13 year old girl from a 7- member family and a 6-grade pupil of Cap Phong Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary School, Hoa Binh Province, was granted a scholarship. She said, “I will extract a quarter of my scholarship grant to the Affection Fund of my school and some of my poor friends who haven’t been as lucky as me. I will spend the rest buying a Muong ethnic minority costume to preserve the national cultural identity, books and reference documents. Besides, I will buy rice for my sisters and brothers.”

 

Bui Thi Hien, a grade o­ne pupil of Yen Thuong Primary School of Cao Phong district, promised she would try to study better to satisfy the expectation of her passed-away mother, her teachers and friends.

 

Two staff members of the Global Exchange received the Merit Medal of the Vietnam Women’s Union “For the Development of the Vietnamese Women".
