Former Vice President and Head of delegation of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam at the Paris Conference, Mme. Nguyen Thi Binh, was deeply moved to recall the memories of the Paris Agreement negotiation process. During the negotiation, the delegation had followed the direction of the Politburo, always asserting their view-point and principles but still remaining flexible in order to achieve the ultimate goal of having the United States of America withdraw soldiers and gaining Vietnam’s true national sovereignty. She reiterated that the delegation fought the war without guns but rather with their minds, which proved to be extremely difficult, complicated, and tense. With faith in the victory of the resistance of Vietnamese people, the delegation obtained successful results. The Paris Agreement was signed at the culmination of the longest and most difficult diplomatic struggle in the diplomatic history of Vietnam in the 20th century, marking the historic victory of the Vietnamese after more than 19 years of patient struggle on the political, military, and diplomatic front against the U.S. empire. The U.S. had to recognize the independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Vietnam, cease bombing North Vietnam, and withdraw all U.S. soldiers and allies from Vietnam.
On behalf of the Vietnam Women's Union, President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa presented a bouquet of flowers to former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh and expressed the deep gratitude of Vietnamese people, Vietnamese women in particular, for her great contribution to the diplomatic battle front for national independence.
On the occasion of the New Year, President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa wished Mme. Binh good health and hoped that Vietnamese women would continuously follow her example and contribute to national construction and defense in the industrialization, modernization, and globalization period.
