UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam visited and congratulated VWU

In the morning of 8th March 2007, Mr. John Hendra, UN Resident Coordinator visited and gave complement to VWU’s carders and members on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

On behalf of VWU’s staff, members, women in Vietnam, Mme Khiet Mme Ha Thi Khiet, member of Central Communist Party, VWU’s President, Chairwoman of NCFAW welcomed and thanked for the valuable support of UN to the development process of Vietnam in general and the Vietnamese women in particular, especially in their struggle against poverty, HIV/AIDS. Mme Khiet also pointed out challenges that the Vietnamese women are facing in integration process namely: poverty, backwardness, poor competity in international market, HIV/AIDS epidemic, and implementation of Gender Equality Law. President hopes that Mr. John Hendra and UN Country Team in Vietnam pay more attention and assistance, to help Vietnam and the Vietnamese women for sustainable, comprehensive development and integration into the global economy.

 

Mr. Hendra highly appreciated efforts of Vietnam and VWU in the transitional period particularly in the field of poverty reduction; fighting against HIV/AIDS; gender equality and advancement of women. He extended his congratulation to the approval of the Gender Equality Law by the National Assembly in 2006 and the committed implementation of the UN Convention CEDAW. He confirmed that UN family is always ready to support Vietnam including VWU, especially in economic empowerment for women, communication to raise awareness in gender equality, research and data and HIV/AIDS prevention … o­n the occasion of 8th March, Mr. Hendra wished the best regards to VWU and further relationship between International organizations and VWU.
