Vietnamese women in 2024: International integration toward sustainable development

Strengthening bilateral cooperation, affirming its role in the region
In 2024, VWU focuses on maintaining close relationships with neighboring countries and traditional friends through visits, and information exchange. The highlight of the year was welcoming high-level delegations from the Lao Women's Union and the Cambodian Women for Peace and Development as well as Lao and Cambodian women entrepreneurs to attend the Forum connecting business women from three countries Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia, with the theme "Women entrepreneurs and green economy". This is the first time the VWU has organized an event to connect business women from three countries, creating a premise for green economic cooperation - a development trend that is of interest to the world and the region. These activities not only help strengthen the traditional friendship but also create a foundation for promoting gender equality and sustainable economic development in the region.

The high-level delegation of VWU visited Russia and Belarus, contributing to consolidate and develop relations with the women's organizations and partners of the two sides, making an important contribution to strengthen the traditional friendship between Viet Nam and the two countries.

Besides, VWU also pays attention to developing and expanding relationships with partners in developed countries with experience in gender equality such as Korea, the United States and Japan. These relationships not only open up opportunities to learn from advanced experiences but also promote projects that support women in start-up, improving their leadership capacity and sustainable development. At the 11th Vietnam - Korea Women's Forum, VWU signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korean Women's Parliamentary Network, contributing to deeper cooperation between two nations.

Strengthening multilateral activities and affirming VWU's status in the international arena
Not only focusing on bilateral relations, VWU also actively participates in multilateral activities and people-to-people diplomacy. During the year, it continued to demonstrate its role as an active and responsible member of the ASEAN Confederation of Women's Organizations (ACWO) and the Women's International Democratic Federation (WIDF).

Typically, a VWU high-level delegation led by its leader attended the ACWO General Assembly in the Philippines and received the title of ACWO's rotating Presidency for the term 2025-2026. VWU also sent a delegation to attend the WIDF Direction Committee Meeting in Colombia.

VWU actively contributes to Party and State diplomacy. Particularly, its representative accompanied the Vice President of Viet Nam to attend the 68th Session of the United Nations Committee on the Status of Women (CSW) in the United State, and at the same time joined the activities of the Group of Female National Assembly deputies in Lao PDR. This participation contributes to affirming the role of VWU in global issues and enhance Vietnam's presence in international forums.
Increasing connection with overseas Vietnamese women
In 2024, VWU actively connects overseas Vietnamese women, encouraging them to unite toward their homeland and be a bridge between Vietnam and the host country. VWU leaders met them while visiting foreign countries such as Russia, Belarus, Japan, Korea and when they return to Vietnam; sending congratulatory letters, attending their events and mobilizing them to respond to domestic women's movements.

Thanks to positive activities, VWU received a certificate of merit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its contribution to the work of Vietnamese expats on the occasion of the 4th Overseas Vietnamese Conference in August 2024 in Hanoi.
Actively mobilizing resources to support women's comprehensive development
In 2024, the Central VWU mobilized seven foreign-funded projects/activities with over 138 billion VND (equivalent to more than 5.6 million US dollars). These projects/activities not only focus on enhancing leadership capacity for women but also strongly support important areas such as entrepreneurship, parenting education, climate change adaptation, digital transformation and green transformation, thereby creating sustainable values for the community. This is an important resource to help VWU realize its strategic goals in the coming time.

Promoting international information communication and research
International information communication and research were also actively implemented, with more than 120 in-depth news and articles posted on VWU’s communication channels. In particular, 8 E-bulletin newsletters in English were sent to international partnerswhich helped international friend understand better Vietnam and Vietnamese women’s movements.
The VWU always expressed its international solidarity through letters sharing with foreign partners in the face of disasters and other difficulties. It also received support and encouragement from international friends.

Domestically, VWU continues to implement the Resolution No. 18/NQ-BCH on supporting women's international integration until 2030 through capacity building workshops and guidance for WU officials at all levels. These activities have contributed to creating a solid foundation for the international integration of Vietnamese women.
With outstanding achievements in 2024, VWU has demonstrated its pioneering role in building and promoting foreign relations, affirming the status of Vietnamese women in the international arena. The VWU’s unremitting efforts are a strong source of motivation, opening up great prospects for Vietnamese women in the journey of international integration and sustainable development in the new era of national development.
