Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam Women’s Union Strengthen Cooperation

At the invitation of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU), a 14-member delegation of the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam (CWBD), headed by its President Pengiran Datin Hajah Mariam, visited and worked with the VWU from 24-27 November 2013.

On the morning of November 25th 2013, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa had a meeting with the delegation at VWU head office in Hanoi. She expressed warm welcome to Pengiran Datin Hajah Mariam and CWBD delegates for their first bilateral visit to the VWU, accentuating the friendship and cooperation between VWU and CWBD and the countries as a whole. Mrs. Thanh Hoa recalled pleasant memories of VWU delegation during their stay in Brunei Darussalam to attend the ASEAN Confederation of Women’s Organizations (ACWO) General Assembly in 2006.

At the meeting, the VWU President addressed the delegation, briefly summarizing the situation of women and gender equality in Vietnam,highlighting VWU’s current activities, and congratulating CWBD for their successful hosting of the 2013 ASEAN People's Forum held in Brunei from 6 - 8 April 2013.

CWBD President Pengiran Datin Hajah Mariam expressed her gratitute for the VWU’s warm welcome and hospitality towards the delegation. She also shared information o­n the status of women in Brunei and CWBD’s current activities. o­n this occasion, she extended an invitation to VWU to visit Brunei in 2014. Mme. Thanh Hoa graciously accepted the invitation.

After the meeting with VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, CWBD delegation participated in a workshop hosted by VWU to share information and experiences o­n women's issues and activities of respective organizations. The workshop was attended by CWBD delegates as well as VWU’s officials and leaders.

To conclude the workshop, VWU Vice President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha congratulated and appreciated the CWBD’s achievements in promoting women's status. She also hoped that in the near future the two women's organizations will strengthen their partnership through exchanging visits, information-sharing, collaborating conferences and seminars, and supporting each other in the overall goal of women’s empowerment. CWBD President thanked VWU for its initiative in organizing this workshop, in which meaningful and useful information was shared.

During their stay in Vietnam, CWBD delegation visited the Women's Union of Quang Ninh province and Ha Long Bay – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The CWBD’s working visit has enhanced both understanding and friendship between the two organizations and women of the two countries, thus contributing to the development of each country and the ASEAN region.
