Charity donation to raise money for victims of the 9th typhoon-striken provinces

According to the Central Steering Committee for Storm and Flood Control’s report, by 7th Dec 2006, Durian death toll rises to 67 people, 31 others went missing in the typhoon, the 9th of its kind this year.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau is the most suffered province the heaviest losses, with 47 dead, 21 missing; followed by Ben Tre province with 15 dead.

 

Besides the serious losses in human life, the typhoon has completely destroyed 34.000 houses, damaged 177.800 houses, ruined 853 classrooms, sunk 808 fishing boats. The losses in property has risen to billions dong.

 

In the afternoon 7th December 2006, Vietnam Women’s Union has organized a charity donation to raise money for victims of the 9th typhoon in the typhoon-stricken provinces, appealing each official donates at least o­ne-day wage. Right after the campaign, the whole officials of VWU has donated 19 million dong.

 

Also at the same day, the Presidium of VWU has donated 20 million dong each province to the two typhoon stricken provinces of: Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Ben Tre.
