Describing the event as one of profound political and social significance, she stressed its aim to honor the important contributions of women and female journalists throughout the history of Vietnam’s revolutionary press. She reaffirmed the pivotal role of women in the 100-year development of Vietnam’s revolutionary press and underscored that journalism especially women-led journalism has not only accompanied the women’s movement but also acted as a powerful force in protecting women's rights, promoting gender equality, and inspiring society with stories of women's progress throughout the nation’s development journey.

Journalism – A Powerful Communication Force for Vietnamese Women

Over the past century, generations of female journalists and women-focused media outlets have not only fulfilled the noble mission of Vietnam’s revolutionary press but have also emerged as a unique and powerful force in advocating for women’s legitimate rights, advancing gender equality, and inspiring societal progress through the lens of women’s empowerment.

From wartime correspondents who held both the pen and the gun to peacetime communicators on the frontlines of public discourse, women journalists have been both witnesses to and agents of revolutionary journalism and sustainable national development.

Advancing the Role of Journalism in the New Era

The national scientific conference “Women and 100 Years of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press” provided an opportunity to reflect on the close bond between women journalists and the revolutionary cause, while analyzing their evolving role in promoting gender equality, spreading humanistic values, and contributing to national progress in the digital age.

From early publications such as Nữ giới chung (1919) to titles like Vietnam Women, Hanoi Women, and HCMC Women, the female press has consistently championed women’s movements and driven the narrative of Vietnamese women’s advancement across historical periods. In both war and peace, women journalists have embodied both professional excellence and revolutionary spirit.

“While the number and quality of women journalists are growing significantly, their full potential remains underutilized,” noted VWU President Nguyễn Thị Tuyến. Gender-insensitive content still exists in media, undermining efforts to change perceptions and actions toward gender equality in the community.”

As Vietnam enters a new era of rapid digital transformation, female journalists and women-led media face both significant opportunities and challenges — demanding courage, professionalism, and an unwavering drive for innovation.

VWU President Nguyễn Thị Tuyến praised the high quality of the conference’s presentations, recognizing them as meaningful, scientific contributions that help clarify the mission and role of journalism in revolutionary and social progress — particularly in supporting women’s comprehensive development.

Highlights from the Conference

“This is also a timely opportunity for the VWU to strengthen collaboration with media agencies in advancing women’s economic, political, and social empowerment, thereby contributing to the nation’s overall development,” said VWU President Nguyễn Thị Tuyến.

She also emphasized that, in the context of implementing key strategic resolutions set by the Politburo, journalism particularly women-led media must take the lead in communicating policies, driving innovation, and encouraging the growth of the private sector. This moment, she noted, also presents a valuable opportunity for the VWU to work closely with the press to enhance the comprehensive empowerment of women in all spheres of life.
