Women’s Union of Bac yen District: 4000 Members graduated from illiteracy

Bac Yen district (Son La province) has 7 ethnic groups, of which Mong people consist of 50% of the population.

Several years ago, the rate of illiterates in this locality was very high and most of those were women.

 

Being aware of the reason, the district women’s union has cooperated with the local Education and Training Department to organize 2 classes of illiteracy eradication for 104 women members from women’s union of Ta Xua commune, Cheu, Xin Vang, Hang Chu, Pac Nga villages.

 

To maintain the class, a part from the State’s support, the Women’s Union persuaded participants to bring vegetable, rice and burning wood to the gathering place for study. The Women’s Union also frequently examined and encouraged the participants in their study, thus obtaining good results. Subsequently, the district women’s union intends to multiply this successful example in the whole district. Especially, 24 women members from Sap Viet village, Ta Khoa commune voluntarily came and asked teacher Lo Thi Khanh for teaching them.

 

Over the past 5 years, the women’ s union of Bac Yen district has helped 4000 women members eradicate illiteracy, 411 o­nes finish their primary education, 150 o­nes finish their secondary education. Thanks to good performance, the Women’s Union of Bac Yen has attracted 98% of women members to take part in the movement “Mutual Assistance among Women for Household economics Development”, “Good care and education for the children” and “Women be active in education and building happy family”
