VND740 million - Emergency Relief Support for Women and Children in Flood Areas of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Dac Lac

27/09/2007
On the afternoon of August 30, 2007, VWU coordinated with Helpage International (HAI) to give this money to representatives of three provincial Women’s Unions.

This is an emergency relief grant from Jersey Overseas Aid Committee, through HAI, to recover damage of No. 2 storm in the central areas: Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Dac Lac.

This grant will provide support to 2,000 flood-affected households/families, which cover an estimated 10,000 people. Each family will receive VND 370,000: Quang Binh (870 families receiving 321.9 million VND), Ha Tinh (870 families receiving 321.9 million VND), and Dac Lac (260 families receiving 96.2 million VND). The target population is mostly older people, women and children.

Earlier, right after the flood, Central VWU sent VND 25 million as immediate relief to these three provinces. At present, VWU continues to cooperate with HAI to implement the “Emergency Relief Support for Older Flood Victims and Their Families in Vietnam” in Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Dac Lac. In addition to the grant, the project is focusing on assessing the needs of the people and families affected by the flood, especially vulnerable people who need further rehabilitation work. The results of the assessment will be provided to the Local Government Disaster Management Committees and The Red Cross in order to ensure that further long-term rehabilitation assistance is provided to the identified families.
