Towards the 60th commemoration of the August Revolution and the National Day of 2nd September, the 60th Anniversary of the People’s Police’s Foundation and 75th commemoration of VWU Foundation, from 11 to 12 August, Presidium of Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) organized a pilgrimate to historical places in Tuyen Quang province where Central VWU located during the Resistance War against the French (1950-1954).

Participating in these activities were nearly 600 people representing leaders and staff of Central VWU and provincial/city WUs from Quang Binh northwards, representatives from Central WU’s retired staff who worked during Viet Bac period, representatives from different ministries and sectors, leaders of provincial Party’s Commission, People’s Council, People’s Committee, WUs, other sectors and mass organizations and people from former revolutionary bases in Tuyen Quang province as well as central and local press.

On 11th August, VWU inaugurated a memorial in Na La hamlet, Xuan Quang commune, Chiem Hoa district, where Central WU located during 1950-1951 and recorded nice memories about the relationship between central WU staff and local people during the fierce time of the Resistance.

On 12 August, another memorial was inaugurated by VWU in Lung Bung hamlet, Tan Trao commune, Son Duong district, where Central WU located during 1952-1954. This place had protected the country’s and revolution’s nerve center agencies, including VWU, during severe years of the Resistance War against the French. Right in this place, VWU president Mme. Ha Thi Khiet, on behalf of the Union, handed over to WUs in Diem Mac, Xuan Quang and Tan Trao communes each a fund of VND 50 millions to support women’s economic development and poverty reduction.

On this occasion, participants also visited Tan Trao-Security Area - a historical place.A Get-Together “under Tan Trao banyan tree’s shadow” among VWU units, its historical witnesses and the People’s Police forces was organized by VWU in collaboration with Ministry of Public Security and Vietnam Television Agency.

Cultural exchange activities between VWU’s staff and local leaders and people of ethnic minorities in Chiem Hoa district, Tuyen Quang township also took place in evenings of 10th and 11th August.

The above activities are in continuance of Central VWU’s earlier pilgrimates which took place on 14th April and 17th July, 2005 respectively to revolutionary base of VWU during the Resistance War against the Americans in Tam Lap commune, Tan Bien district, Tay Ninh province, and during 1949-1951 in Diem Mac commune, Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province. The VWU 2005 pilgrimates are to maintain and promote Vietnamese women’s fine traditions of “drink water remember its source” on the occasion of 30th commemoration of South Vietnam’s liberation and the national reunification, 60th anniversary of the country‘s foundation and 75th commemoration of VWU’s foundation.
