Phu Tho Women's Union supports women in economic empowerment

Annually, the VWUs at all levels coordinate with the local SPB to organize training courses to improve knowledge and management skills for trust managers and loan & savings team leaders.

As of October 31, 2023, the total outstanding balance managed by the local VWUs reached nearly 1,600 billion VND (nearly 68.4 million USD), showing an increase of over 126 billion VND (nearly 5.4 million USD) compared to the end of 2022. The overall bad debts managed by the local WU account for only 0.075% of the total outstanding balance.

In 2023, over 8,500 poor households and other beneficiaries have been provided with loans; 2,200 women have received assistance in job placement. Furthermore, 132 social houses and over 870 houses for poor households have been built or repaired. With credit capital, the Provincial Fund for Supporting Poor Women has disbursed loans of over 67 billion VND (nearly 2.9 million USD) for 2,429 women; TYM Fund gave loans of over 230 billion VND (nearly 10 million USD) to its members for economic development.

These activities for women’s economic empowerment are directed and implemented in accordance with Government projects such as Project 939 on supporting women in business start-up in the period 2017-2025; Project 01 on supporting cooperatives managed by women and creating jobs for female workers until 2030; Project 8 on realizing gender equality and addressing urgent issues faced by women and children.

Concluding the meeting, VWU Vice President Tran Lan Phuong commended Phu Tho WU for its achievements. She suggested that the province continues to facilitate conditions for women’s economic empowerment, the development of cooperative models led by women, and promote the effectiveness of vocational training models for women's career transition. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to training and capacity building for loan and savings groups, monitoring and supervising the performance of the Provincial Fund for Supporting Poor Women and entrustment loans. Ms. Phuong also urged more investment in the local VWUs’ facilities for digital technology application, thus improving the effectiveness of its activities.
