Nam Dinh Provincial Women’s Union Boosts the Program of Supporting Women to Develop Economy and Reduce Poverty.
To carry out the guideline of supporting targeted group of poor households, single women and women facing special difficult situation, the WU helped 4,397 poor women headed households accounting 46% out of the total 9,488 ones.
Nam Dinh WU also paid much attention and gave direction on capital supporting for women to develop economy and supervising usage of the borrowed capital against the proposed loan purposes. Up to now, W.U at all levels is managing over 229 billion VND to lend 72,016 turns of women, of which 60% are poor women. Together with supporting loans, WU cooperated with related authorities to organize training classes and give instruction to apply advanced technical science into production, animal husbandry for developing household economy following farm orientation.
Job training, career introduction as well as activities to support enterprises have been focused on by WU. Every year, WU at all level organizes hundreds of job training classes such as sewing, embroiling, weaving for thousands of women; Provincial Women Entrepreneurs’ Club was established; In addition, 17 women entrepreneurs’ clubs at district and grassroots level were set up attracting 857 members and operating under strict discipline.
Despite of great achievements, activities to support women in developing household’s economy and reducing poverty have limitations. The rate of women-led households who received the support from WU is still low. Many women dare not apply advanced technical science into agricultural economic structure conversion; some units do not manage and use capital effectively; typical models are not evaluated to learn from experiences and multiplied in larger range…
To implement the Program more effectively, in the beginning of the term 2006 – 2011, Nam Dinh Provincial Women’s Union enumerated solutions and tasks in the whole term, namely boosting communication activities, transferring and applying technical sciences into production and business activities; supporting poor women, especially women-led poor households; increasing capital loans for women, creating jobs and increasing income; conducting the skills of using and managing capital effectively to hit the goals as well as to assure the capital safety; developing new forms of job training, maintaining and enhancing traditional careers, focusing on short-term job training for women in the countryside and industrial zones, attaching job training with career introduction; extending and enhancing the quality of supporting activities for women entrepreneurs; developing the network of women-led companies; setting up and applying successful models…
