2026 Economic Census: Database for Enhancing Women's Economic Role
In 2026, Vietnam will conduct its 7th Economic Census. This is one of three national statistical censuses mandated by the Law on Statistics and is performed every five years.
Identifying fully Contributions and Challenges for Women in the economy
The 2026 Economic Census plays a vital role in identifying the status, contributions, and emerging issues for women in the economy, especially amid digital transformation and growth model renovation. With a comprehensive scope covering enterprises, cooperatives, administrative units, and over 5 million individual business households nationwide, it provides a high-reliable database for deep analysis of women’s participation in the economy.
Collecting synchronized data on labor, industry, asset, capital, revenue, costs, and business performance not only identifies clearer women’s contribution role in the economy, but also reveals the specific challenges that they are facing.
Furthermore, the 2026 census allows us to assess the ratio of women-owned businesses, individual business households, and female participation in the digital economy and e-commerce, which are developing rapidly but not yet mentioned in statistic system.

The census results serve as an important fundamental for ministries and local authorities to develop or adjust policies regarding employment, social security, vocational training, startup support, and digital transformation for women, particular those are in rural and remote areas. At the same time, detailed data by locality helps identify disadvantaged groups of women to improve the effectiveness of National Target Programs and gender equality policies.
Ultimately, the 2026 Economic Census not only serves macro-economic management, but also plays a key role in promoting inclusive development, ensuring that women are empowered to participate in, benefit from and contribute equally to the nation's socio-economic development.
