Vietnamese students prove their international capability with outstanding study achievements abroad.

I’m Vietnamese

For Vietnamese students in Japan, Phan Huu Duy Quoc is a bright example. He founded the Vietnamese Youth and Student Association in Japan, and has held the post of chairman and vice chairman for many years. Earning a scholarship to study in Japan while working as a lecturer at HCM City Polytechnic University, Phan Huu Duy Quoc obtained a master’s degree and then a doctorate. While pursuing his post-doctoral research programme at Tokyo University, he works as a lecturer both there, and at HCM City Polytechnic University.

Quoc is also a reputed Taekwondo artist in Japan. He previously won the national Taekwondo master’s title and was called to the national Taekwondo team to represent Vietnam at the 19th SEA Games in Indonesia. Previously, the chief coach of Japan’s Taekwondo team invited Quoc to join the team but he refused, with a very simple reason: “I’m a Vietnamese”.

In Japan, he has twice held the Taekwondo championship, and was invited to lecture and work as assistant to a Japanese instructor at the Japan Taekwondo School. He is also the founder and a master at Komaba martial arts club in Japan

“I represent Vietnam,” said Nguyen Phuong Ngoc, a Vietnamese student of Singapore’s Nanyang University, after winning first prize for algorithm at the Imagine Cup contest held by Microsoft in Yokohama, Japan.

Previously, Ngoc entered the world final of Imagine Cup 2004 with Software Design product. With outstanding study records, Ngoc won a scholarship to attend Nanyang University and when he registered for Imagine Cup, organisers mistook Ngoc as a Singaporean contestant twice and he had to send letters to confirm: “I’m Vietnamese and represent Vietnam at the contest”. He became the first Vietnamese student to hold the championship of the contest.
