Vietnam – Singapore potential cooperation on international marriage support

09/05/2017
It was one of the main topics discussed at the meeting between VWU Vice President Mrs. Bui Thi Hoa and Singaporean Minister of Culture, Community and Youth Mrs. Grace Fu at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum (Hanoi) on April 17, 2017.

At the reception, Mrs. Bui Thi Hoa briefed Mrs. Grace Fu the recent 12th National Women’s Congress. As resoluted by the Congress, the VWU would focus on such key tasks as mobilizing and supporting women in business start-up and economic development, building a stronger VWU organization with a stronger voice to protect women’s and children’s rights and interest including protection of girls from the risks of sexual abuse.

The VWU is also interested in working with other organizations to provide young women with knowledge and life skills, including premarriage preparation.

Conveying her thanks for VWU Vice President’s reception, Mrs. Grace Fu expressed appreciation of VWU’s programs and activities, some of which are close to her Ministry’s concerns, especially youth issues.

Mrs. Grace Fu was particularly interested in learning about VWU’s counseling and support in international marriage with a view to enhancing women’s knowledge of culture, customs and laws of the destination countries, and providing life skills for better integration and risk preparation. She thought this could be a field of cooperation of the two sides because 30% of married couples in Singapore are foreigner-related.

On this occasion, Mrs. Grace Fu toured the Vietnamese Women’s Museum and was attracted by many exhibits showcasing women’s role through the building and defense of the Vietnamese nation and women’s imprints in the culture.
