The Roundtable “Museums - Challenges in the 21th Century”

In two days October 30 and 31, 2017, representatives from the Vietnamese Women's Museum attended the Roundtable "Museums - Challenges in the 21th Century" held in Jakarta, Indonesia by Goethe Institute Regional Southest Asia and Pacific. The Roundtable is part of a multi-stage project on the future of museums in Southest Asia aiming to cooperate with institutions and experts not only from Southest Asia, but also from Germany.

 
   15 participants from Germany, New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam attending the Roundtable and discussing o­n both positive and negative aspects facing museums o­n global and regional scale. The following themes were raised for discussion:
- How can we reconfigure the canons of art history?
- What do national, international, regional or local mean for museums and their identities in the 21st century?
- What does provenance imply, and how can o­ne facilitatethe circulation of collections between museums?
- How do we define museum education for the future?
 
   At the Roundtable, the Director of the Vietnamese Women's Museum shared her statement o­n How the VWM represents local concerns; the role of the community to the museum and how to engage the community.
 
   The Roundtable "Museums - Challenges in the 21th Century" was not o­nly a forum for museum experts from countries to share experiences and learn from each other, but also offered the foundation for the connection and collaboration in the future.
