Seminar on Women and the Role of the Family in Drug Prevention

Responding to the World Drug Prevention Day, June 26, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) organized a seminar on women and the role of the family in drug prevention at Van Ho Exhibition Center on June 26.

Those attending the seminar included Senior Lieutenant - General Le The Tiem - Deputy Minister of Public Security, Mme. Nurami Yamada - Chief Representative of UN Criminal and Drug Prevention, Mr. Le Duc Hien - Vice Director of Social Evils Prevention Department (MOLISA) andother participants who are leaders/staff of the 21 Provincial/ City WUs and the Ha Noi Center for Labor-Social Education No II.

 

In the opening speech, Mme. Nguyen Phuong Minh, Deputy President of VWU, Chief Editor of Vietnam Women's Newspaper confirmed the role of women and the family in educating and protecting their children from drug abuse. Over the last 5 years, VWU has had many effective activities to contribute to limiting drug abuse in families as well as in the wider community. The Seminar is aimed at information and experience sharing between localities, witnesses to work out effective measures to reinforce the role of women and families in drug preventative activities.

 

Speaking at the Seminar, Mr. Le The Tiem highly appreciated VWU's contributions to the drug prevention mission in general and for their relatives in particular. The integration of drug prevention movements launched by VWU such as "Drug prevention from family", the “Drug prevention club", teams of motivators ... with movements to build happy families, raise healthy and educated children. These factors have contributed to the good results in drug prevention, making significant contributions to raising the awareness of women members in preventing drug abuse.

Mme. Nurami Yamada - o­n behalf of UN criminal and drug prevention in VN emphasized the importance and the special meaning of the Seminar. She said that the organization of the Seminar at the time of Drug Prevention International Day, June 26, and Vietnam Family Day, June28,showedgreat determination of the State and the Party, especially VWU.


On this occasion, Mme. Nurami shared highly valuable information with parents to help give their children a healthy life without drugs.


The participants at the Seminar were able to listen to valuable speeches of typical WU's cadres at all levels in combating and preventing drug abuse at various localities. Especially, at this Seminar, with the participation and thought sharing of women witnesses who have or had drug addiction treatment at the Center for Labor-Social Education No II.
