Realising a dream with every passing day

When Huong was born, she suffered an eye malformation, so she kept crying. Her parents took her to various medical facilities for treatment, which all succumbed to her disease.

As a result, when she was in her fourth grade of Quang Trung primary school, she could see nothing. So she had to ask her parents or friends to read all the lessons and learn them. She said she was very disappointed and sad when she thought that her dream of becoming a teacher would never come true. Her teacher also said that she could not learn in this way for upper classes and advised her to move to Nguyen Dinh Chieu school for blind children.


On the first days in the new school, she faced a lot of difficulties when she began to learn Braille letters for blind people. Thanks to the care and encouragement of her parents, teachers and friends, Huong gained back her confidence and made progress. After half a year, she could catch up with her friends and then became the top of her class.


Nguyen Dinh Chieu school has become her second warm shelter as she said teachers there taught her with skills for disabled people to integrate into community, build confidence and live independently. After years at the school, Huong could draw, play key board and use common computer and computer for the blind, computer. Huong was a M.C of various exchanges of the school and an editor of the school's "Sunlight Flower" magazine.

After completing her junior secondary school with a high result, she was recommended to go to Luong The Vinh school. During the time, Huong's mother had to sell a motorbike for an old laptop. Her textbooks were also very expensive as her family had to buy them from Ho Chi Minh City. Though she faced a lot of difficulties, she was received assistance from various kind-hearted people.


After seeing her study record, teacher Dinh Quang Bao, head master of Hanoi teachers' training college, agreed to accept her as a student. A new road has opened up before her. She was very happy because her dream may come true. Huong said that she was luckier than many other visually-impaired people and expressed her hoped that people like her would be treated equally like others.
