Miss Vietnam Nguyen Ngoc Khanh, together with four other celebrities, bodybuilding sportsman Ly Duc, musician Huy Tuan, MC Thao Van, and Prof scientist Nguyen Lan Dung, will appear in advertisement pieces calling for people not to consume products made from wild animals.

The ad pieces will be shown on television during the coming Tet days.

This is a part of the project on heightening the peoples’ awareness about wild animals initiated by the Indochina World Wild Fund (WWF) and TRAFFIC, the global network keeping track of the trading of wild animals.

The consumption of wild animals in Vietnam, according to surveys, always increases sharply on Tet days. Wild animals are usually used in year-end summation parties, or bought for gifts. The eating of wild animals has been considered a sign of richness and high social position.

The advertisement campaign to be launched on Tet aims to change the habits and awareness of Vietnamese people and persuade them to protect the animals which are threatened in Vietnam as well as in South Asia.

The advertisement pieces will be broadcast on Vietnam Television channels during Tet. The famous people will talk about different issues related to the consumption of rare animals, and give the slogan: “Hay cung chung toi don mot cai Tet khong tieu thu cac san pham dong thuc vat hoang da co nguy co tiet chung” (Please join us to welcome a Tet with no consumption of wild animals at risk of extinction).

Printed ad pieces will also be published in big newspapers put in public places around Hanoi on Tet days.
