GREAT EVENTS OF VIETNAM WOMEN’S UNION IN 2005

Get-together of exemplary women of the stimulation movement "three responsibilities"

On the occasion of the 30^th year Liberation of South Vietnam and 40^thyear of the Stimulation Movement (April 2005), a Get-together will be held at Ba Dinh Hall, Ha Noi Capital with the participation of more than 300 exemplary women selected from the Stimulation Movement "Three responsibilities" and outstanding women at the age 40s.

The Get-together means to commemorate the significant roles and boundless sacrifices of the Vietnamese women, to promote and praise exemplary women in the Stimulation movement and the generation of women at the age 40s. This is also an educative effort to highline the fine tradition of the Vietnamese women who are brave, indomitability, loyalty, and resourceful and to encourage women in the whole country to actively study, work and accomplish women's role and responsibility in the current period.

Pilgrimage to the Source

In order to demonstrate women’s force and to enhance the communication and education to women o­n the traditional history of the Vietnam Women’s Union, the Central Vietnam Women’s Union will organize “Pilgrimage to the Source” visiting the first venues of accommodation and work place of the Central Vietnam Women’s Union and the Southern Vietnam Liberation Women’s Union.

The Pilgrimage to the source venue of the Southern Vietnam Liberation Women’s Union during Anti-US Resistance War in Tan Bien district, Tay Ninh province will be conducted o­n the occasion of the 30^th year Liberation anniversary of the South (30^th April 1975 - 30^th April 2005) with the participation of the representatives of the leadership from 33 cities/provinces from Quang Tri province Southward.

The Pilgrimage to the source venue of the Central Vietnam Women’s Union during the period of Anti-French Resistance War in VietBac will be started o­n the occasion of 75^th year anniversary of Vietnam Women’s Union foundation (20^th October 1930- 20^th October 2005) with the participation of the representatives of the leadership from 31 cities/provinces from Quang Binh Northward.

In these two venues, the Central Vietnam Women’s Union will cut ribbons to inaugurate the Monument in memory of their accommodation and work places in the resistance wars and present the saving books for selected households, which are headed by the poor women and poor staff of the local Women’s Union.

Vietnam Women's Union responses to the UN 10-year Review of Beijing latform for Action

The Commission o­n the Status of Women (CSW) will hold its forty-ninth session from 28 Feb to 11 Mar. 2005, at United Nations Headquarter in New York. The Session will focus o­n review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action of the 4th World Conference o­n Women in Beijing, China, 1995 and the outcome document documents of the Special Session of the General Assembly, New York 2000.

To response and participate in this important international event, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) has actively mobilized technical and financial support from some international organizations (ActionAid Vietnam, SIDA and IWRAW) to conduct many activities of communicating o­n Beijing +10 as well as preparing review report o­nimplemenation of Beijing Platform for Action in Vietnam. VWU has finalized its own report o­n VWU's implementation of the Platform of Action and is currently collaborating with some Vietnamese NGOs to prepare the Alternative Report for Beijing +10. VWU will also send a delegation of 5 representatives from the Union to the 49^th Session of CSW to contribute Vietnamese women's voice to different discussions and activities at the Session.

Get-together of generations of members of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union

The Presidium of Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) decided to conduct a get-together of different generations of members of VWU's Central Executive Committee, from tenure 1^st to 9^th, o­n the occasion of 75^th anniversary of VWU (20^th October 2005). This Get-together is to recall glorious traditions and contributions by the Central Executive Committee through different generations to the development of Vietnamese women's movement and VWU.

This is also an opportunity for former members of the Executive Committee to meet, exchange and share their experiences in VWU's work with the current VWU's leaders and staff. It is expected to have 600 participants at the Get-together.

Awarding the Memento “For the development of women in Vietnam”

Based o­n the Law of Stimulation and Awarding approved by the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, tenure IX, meeting section No 4 o­n 26 November 2003, Vietnam Women’s Union started to replace its Medal ”For the Cause of women’s liberation” that has been presented for the last 20 years with the Memento “For the Development of Women in Vietnam”

The Memento “For the Development of Women” is a noble title that Vietnam Women’s Union exclusively reserves for those individuals and organizations who have made great contribution to the cause of equality and development of Vietnamese women. The conferring of the Memento is to be held every year, o­n the birthday of Vietnam Women’s Union, 20^th October.
