Friendship village - a symbol of int'l solidarity

Chairwoman of the International Committee of Friendship Villages, Rose Marie Hohn Mizo, has described the Friendship Village as a symbol of international solidarity, cooperation and mutual understanding between nations of different cultures for a common goal.

Mizo made the statement at an international conference held in the Ha Tay Friendship Village o­n the outskirts of Ha Noi, o­n Nov. 1, with the participation of representatives from Committees of Friendship Villages from Germany, Canada, France and the United States as well as a number of international experts and volunteers.


Vietnamese Veterans Association Deputy President and General Secretary Tran Hanh took this opportunity to thank the international community for its assistance to Vietnamese Agent Orange/dioxin victims.

Participants made recommendations to a draft agreement between the National Committee o­n Friendship Villages of Viet Nam and the International Committee o­n Friendship Villages. The discussion focused o­n measures to provide children and war veterans in the Ha Tay Friendship Village with the best possible nutritious and medical care, thus helping them quickly integrate themselves into the community.


They also reviewed the village's work in medical care, functional rehabilitation, education, vocational training for children and war veterans affected by Agent Orange/dioxin.

 

The Ha Tay Friendship Village is caring for 40 war veterans and 120 children suffering from Agent Orange/dioxin. The village plans to establish a poly-clinic for war veterans and children in neighbourhood and provide consultation services for families having children with symptoms of stunted growth.
