Xuan Khanh ward has an extensive area, o­ne of Ninh Kieu district’s wards, concentrated services trade establishments, universities. Due to the earnings of constituents, public security in this area was quite complicated.

Since this practice in 2003 along with the implementation of a joint resolution between Women’s Union and the public security sector, Can Tho City Women’s Union and Ninh Kieu district Women’s Union selected Xuan Khanh ward to be the set up model club “For Women’s Future”. The Executive Board includes 5 members (of which there is a ward’s policeman). The club is managed by ward women’s union, led directly by a member of the Party Executive Committee, responsible for public propagation block.

The establishment of club’s aims to enhance the management and education of women who have made a mistake in past reintegrate into the community, prevent and reject social evil trespassed into women’s life in this area. Thus, the club major collected sex workers, drugs users, waitress in restaurants, hotels, karaoke bars, daughters’ families married foreigners; families have girl’s age over 12, particularly girls drop out from school and unemployment.

The Club’s executive committee set up a detailed statutes operation. Assigning duties clearly toward members of the Club’s executive committee in order to operate effectively. The club carries out their activities every month. Focused o­n topics promulgating the Party’s policies, State’s laws related to social evil prevention, provide with basic knowledge for women in order to prevent HIV/AIDS infection and other STI’s; to carry out for medical examination, health care for members of the club. Depending o­n the topic of activities, the club’s executive committee could invite carders to make presentations, answering the questions of the women. In 2005, ward’s policemen managed over 268 women in the targeted groups

In 2006, 10 prostitutes were converted to small peddler, their earnings are quite stable; The club was able to introduce training o­n sewing, hairdressing for 22 women in high-risk areas; to assist 3 women repair their houses, replace thatched roofs by iron sheets; visit and present gifts to women who have difficult situations, are ill or HIV/AIDS affected.

At present, the club has difficulties such as a lack of capital resources for their activities; some members has low attendance to the club’s activites . In order to operate effectively and attract further members, the club “For women’s future” in Xuan Khanh ward, besides their own efforts,need supports from various sectors, particularly Labour – War Invalid – Social welfare sector to help it’s members to do business, to access to vocational training and stable jobs, to give up their mistaken in the past and to gradually reintegrate into the community. Since then, social evil and crime prevention work in the city would achieve much more success./.
