Ca Mau Women with the Emulation Movement of “Women actively study, creatively work, and nurture happy families”

In the process of renovating and building the fatherland, the women are, more than ever, considered to be the subject as well as the target of implementing gender equality rights, national programs on population and health, poverty-alleviation, job creation, nurturing sustainable, happy and advanced family.

On July 31st 2006, the Ca Mau Women’s Union held a meeting to review 5 years implementing the Emulation Movement of “Women actively study, creatively work and nurture happy families” launched by the Vietnam Women’s Union.

 

According to the statistics, women account for 51% population of Ca Mau. There are 40% women labor in economic sector, 49% in education and 50% in public health. The proportion of women working in elective bodies is 14.25%. The women party members account for 13.92% (according to 2004 Statistics). There are approximately 10,000 women at working age need jobs.

 

In the past years, the province’s socio-economy has grown continuously and gained a lot of important targets which have positive impacts to the improvement of the people’s material and spiritual life. The women’s status has been further enhanced. Through the Emulation Movement, tens of thousands of women have accessed to opportunities to learning to enhance their knowledge; over 50 thousands women borrowed loans to invest in their production; over 70% women received the title “Cultural Family”. Several effective production models of women in districts namely Thoi Binh, Tran Van Thoi, Cai Nuoc, Dam Doi and Ca Mau City have created income generating activities and jobs for many rural women, helped women to develop their household economy, nurture their family’s happiness, bring up good children, and participate actively in social activities. A lot of women entrepreneurs have operated effectively and won prestige in the market.

 

Mr. Pham Thanh Tuoi, Vice President of Ca Mau People’s Committee said at the meeting: ”It is necessary to create favorable conditions for women to learn about women’s rights and obligations; children’s rights of protection, care and bringing – up; gender equality. Women should be aware of their rights to participating in social activities and studying to improve their political understanding and professional skills and to enhance their skills of organizing family life. Women in the rural areas should consider what kind of plant and animal to raise; choose seed plants and animal with short growing period, high productivity and in conformity with market’s demand. Women, with their generosity and understanding, are always the string to strengthen the family relationship...”

 

Actively implementing the above mentioned Emulation Movement, Ca Mau women have shown their creativity and dynamism through specific and practical works presenting the important role of women in the society and contributing to the local and national socio - economic development.
