133 women elected deputies to 14th National Assembly

According to the National Election Council (NEC), the total number of candidates elected to the 14th National Assembly (NA) is 496. Out of these, 133 are women making up 26.80%. Although the proportion of women deputies to the NA has not reached the target of 30% at least, it has increased by 2.4% (i.e 11 persons) compared with that of the 13th NA (24.4%; 122 women). And 60 out of 63 cities/provinces have female NA deputies.

The percentage of ethnic minority deputies and young o­nes (below 40 years old) are 17.30% and 14.30% respectively. Regarding the qualification, the proportion of elected candidates having university or higher education is 98.8%. o­nly 6 elected candidates (1.2%) have lower education. The number of first-time election winners is 317 (63.9%) .

 

Also according to the NEC’s report, the proportion of female candidates elected to People Councils at all levels for the term 2016 -2021 has increased in comparison with that of the previous term (2011-2016). It is 26.46% (1.29% up) at provincial level; 27.51% (2.89% up) at district level and 26.70% (4.99% up) at communal level.
