Vietnam and Chile share experience on promoting women’s role and gender equality

On the afternoon of October 24, 2025, during her working visit to Vietnam, Chilean Deputy Foreign Minister Gloria De La Fuente and her delegation visited and worked with the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU).

At the meeting, VWU Vice President Nguyen Thi Minh Huong highlighted strong bilateral ties and progress both countries have made in promoting gender equality, noting Chile was the first South American nation to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam and that cooperation has deepened since their comprehensive partnership was launched in 2007.

Both sides reviewed recent collaboration, including high-level exchanges and gender-focused events held in Hanoi and at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.

Overview of the meeting

Ms. Huong commended Chile’s feminist foreign policy and its gender-balanced cabinet formed in 2022, while sharing Vietnam’s efforts to institutionalize gender equality through national laws and strategies.

Deputy Minister De La Fuente outlined Chile’s action plan to advance feminist diplomacy across international relations, trade, and multilateral forums, emphasizing priorities such as migration, peace, and conflict resolution.

 

Delegates express strong support and close cooperation.

Both sides agreed to expand cooperation, share experience, and encourage stronger participation of women in politics, diplomacy, and emerging areas including digital transformation and climate change response.
