Twenty-seven young Viet kieu (overseas Vietnamese) from six countries and territories laid flowers at President Ho Chi Minh’s Statue in downtown HCM City yesterday, at the opening ceremony for a Viet kieu youth camp.

The four-day Ve nguon (Back to the Grassroots) camp, held for the first time by the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and HCM City’s Youth Federation, will offer youth a programme where they can learn about the nation’s history and join in community activities with local youth in HCM City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. The youth will visit historical sites, join a history contest and play traditional games.

Bui Ta Hoang Vu, deputy chairman of the city’s Youth Union, said the youth, together with local teens, would join in the voluntary Green Summer Campaign and other charitable activities.
