Prime Minister Phan Van Khai visits and meets with leaders of the Central Vietam Women's Union

In the afternoon of 8 January 2005, the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam visited and met with leaders of the Central Vietnam Women's Union (VWU).

Present at the Meeting with the Prime Minister were leaders from different ministries: Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Socail Affairs, Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Government Office.

 

From VWU side, present were Mme Ha Thi Khiet, member of the Central Party Committee, President of VWU, President of the National Committee for the Advancement of Women in Vietnam; Vice Presidents and members of VWU Presidium.

 

On be half of VWU, Mme. Ha Thi Khiet reported to the Prime Minister outstanding achievements during the first half legislature implementing the 9th National Women's Congress' Resolution. Mme. Ha Thi Khiet also mentioned several difficulties occured in the work of Women's Unions at different levels and raised some recommendations to the Government.

 

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai gladdly praised and recognized the achievements gained by VWU, especially those in supporting poor women to erradicate poverty, develop household economy and build families of prosperity, equality, progress and happiness. The Prime Minster's recognition was also for VWU's great efforts in the implementation of different Government's important Programs.

 

In the meeting, the Prime Minister requested VWU to continue its activities in raising all-sided capacity for women; further focus its activities o­n addressing pressing social issues: vocational training, job creation for women, supporting women for sustainable alleviation of poverty with priority given to remote, difficult areas of ethnic minority groups, anti-trafficking in women and children, solving problem of women marrying foreigners, anti-prostitution and HIV/AIDS prevention.

 

In response to the recommendations of VWU, the Prime Minister has instructed concerned ministries like Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Ministry of Education and Training and Ministry of Justice.... to collaborate with VWU to study and formulate intervention projects in the comming time.


On the half of the Presidium of VWU, Mme. Ha Thi Khiet thanked the Prime Minister for his concern towards VWU and committed that VWU will closely collaborate with related ministries to effectively expedite the Prime Minister's instructions.
