In her opening speech, the President of the Hanoi City Women’s Union highlighted the history and the meaning of the International Women’s Day 8 March. on this day in the early of the 20th century, women all over the world gathered to participate in a common fight against the oppression and exploitation of Capitalism. Nowadays, this is the day that international women express their solidarity and display their strength to strive for the goals of equality, development and peace.

To Vietnamese women, this is also an occasion to celebrate the rising of Hai Ba Trung – a milestone in the history of national wars against foreign aggression which proves that the Vietnamese women are not only hard-working at work, brave in fighting against aggression but also have capacity for leading people to defeat enemies and reconstructing the country after the war.

Being a “faithful” member of the WIDF since 1946, the VWU always appreciates the sincere assistances and deep sentiment from the WIDF to the Vietnamese women in antiaggression wars. In the current globalization trend, the Vietnamese women will futher boost solidarity activities and international cooperation and be a faithful member of the WIDF. In the spirit of solidarity, intelligence, creativeness and innovation, the women’s union at all level including Hanoi Women’s Union are continuously striving and participating effectively in all fields ofeconomy, politics, society, culture and international relations. Thus actively contributing to the development of the Hanoi Capital – “the City for peace” and the prosperity, civilization of Vietnam for the goals of equality and advancement of women. This is also worthy of the will and the undauntedness of Hai Ba Trung and the struggle spirit of the WIDF.

On this occasion, VWU together with Ha Noi Women’s Union organized “The Capital’s Cultural festival” to converge talent, capacity, skill, elegance of Hanoi women which contributes to preserve and promote thousand-year cultural character of Hanoi City and to enhance the role of the Vietnamese women in the national industrialization and modernization.
