Live TV progamme raises nearly 7 billion VND for the poor

Nearly 7 billion VND was raised for the poor by individuals, organisations and businesses in the country and abroad through a live TV programme on Dec. 31.

At the programme entiled "Join Hands" aiming at raising money for the Fund for the Poor, President Nguyen Minh Triet asked all sectors and localities to work out policies to help poor people make their ends meet and escape poverty.


The programme, the fifth of its kind so far, was jointly organised by the Fatherland Front, the Viet Nam Television (VTV) and the Military Telecom Corporation (Viettel).

 

Over the past six years, the Fatherland Front used the money allocate from the Fund for the Poor to build 490,000 houses for poor families.


There are about 3.7 million poor families in Viet Nam. Every year, thousands of families became homeless after natural disasters had hit different parts of the country.
