Boosting Breast Cancer Awareness and Support for Women

Ahead of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) has launched a cooperation program with the Novartis Vietnam, titled “Raising Awareness and Strengthening Support for Women in the Prevention and Control of Breast Cancer in Vietnam”, to support members, especially disadvantaged and vulnerable women.
This initiative, running until 2026, aims to enhance public communication through social media and digital platforms, encourage self-examination and regular screenings, organize inspirational events and establish a dedicated support network for breast cancer patients, and ensure patient-centered approaches by listening to women’s real needs.
Speaking at the launch, VWU Vice President Nguyen Thi Thu Hien highlighted that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, with 2.3 million new cases and over 670,000 deaths reported annually, according to the World Health Organization. In Vietnam alone, more than 21,500 new cases are recorded each year, accounting for 25.8% of cancers among women. Alarmingly, many patients are diagnosed at late stages, reducing treatment effectiveness and survival chances.
The VWU called for stronger engagement from healthcare institutions, medical professionals, media organizations, and community advocates to spread awareness, support patients, and foster hope for a healthier future for women in Vietnam.
