Women’s Union of Quang Ninh province helps ethnic and religious women to develop economy

By the end of 2006, in the whole province, there were 345 poor women assisted by the Women’s Union to develop household’s economy with 2000 working days and 1.3 billion VND. The provincial women’s union mobilized provincial women entrepreneurs to sponsor production materials for 24 poor ethnic households in the communes of Phong Du (Tien Yen district), Thanh Son (Ba Che district) and Huc Dong (Binh Lieu district). Each of these households was credited 3 million VND to buy plough buffalo.

The district and town women’s unions cooperated well with the Social Policy Bank, Agricultural Sector, Extension Center, etc. to motivate and support ethnic and mountainous women to borrow more than 62.5 billion VND as well as organize several extension courses for 160 ethnic women.

The women’s union also made asurvey to list down all poor households to propose to the authority of higher level for effective support.

At present, in the province, there are 137 ethnic and religious households that successfully applied integrated agro-forestry and aquaculture o­n a large scale.

These achievements are based o­n the close cooperation and direction of women’s unions at all level in Quang Ninh province. This is a premise for Quang Ninh Women’s Union to successfully mobilize ethnic and religious women in the coming year.
