Vietnamese origin girl students in US win scholarships

Two students of Vietnamese origin have got prestigious scholarships against stiff competition to pursue studies at American and British universities.

Viet Tong Lien Chi, 21, a senior chemistry student at the University of California Davis, won the Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship 2006 worth US$72,000.

She had to take an exam for the scholarship, along with over 30,000 students across the US.

Lien Chi plans to register for a postgraduate research program at UC San Francisco University in June.

She had won 12 scholarships while in school.

Ho Thi Xuan Trang has won the coveted Rhodes scholarship to research at Oxford University in the UK.

Trang is now a senior student of politics at Weslayan  University in Nebraska state, the US.

She has earlier won the Truman scholarship worth $30,000 for her social achievements.

Last February Trang was presented an All-Star Academic First Team Cup by the USA Today newspaper for being among the Top 20 Students in the US and a cash prize of $2,500.
