Vietnam – Korea cultural exchange: Intangible cultural heritage exhibition opens

Nearly 100 handicraft products from the Republic of Korea, which are made by sewing, knotting and embroidery, and show the Korean custom, are being introduced at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology in an exhibition entitled “Praying and Blessing”.

The exhibits, which were first introduced o­n August 28, are often used in rites of passage based o­n the Korean custom, focusing o­n birth and marriage.

According to the organizing committee, the significance of praying and blessing lies in the colour, images and decoration o­n relevant items, including clothes for children o­n their first birthday, cushion for a bride, or headdress in a wedding.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof.Dr. Vo Quang Trong, Director of the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, the exhibition aims at presenting the beauty and diversity of craft products with Korean unique of sewing, knotting and embroidery.

“Costumes like skirts, jackets, hats, headdresses, socks and pouchs, are used in rites of massage as the birth, coming-of-age and marriage,” he said. “They bare ritual meanings and wishing for good health, longevity, prosperity, happiness and good luck.”

He also said that the exhibition is a multifaceted cultural dialogue between Vietnam and the RoK.

Mr. Kim Hong Real, the President of the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation, agreed that the exhibition has a significance meaning of opening doors to cultural exchange between both countries o­n the base of cultural partnership initiative (CPI) project, which aims to expand cultural exchange and promote cultural diversity between cultures.

The exhibition will last till September 13.
